These reflections remind me of the Hindu/Buddhist concept of “upaya” — “the many means” that one can come to learn and become enlightened. There isn’t any one right way to be an activist. We need people to engage in civil disobedience, lobby Congress, write letters to the editor, hold signs (alone or with others), and even to click “like” on Facebook. Some ways may be more potent, but they all influence and impact each other. Bless you for what and how you do what you do — and for inspiring us to do what we will do.

I struggle with this same thing. I was just talking about it yesterday as a matter of fact. One of my goals for 2013 is to get rid of a lot of the ‘stuff’ in my life. Particularly the stuff I don’t actually use. The trouble is, many if not most of that stuff is loaded with ‘sentimental value.’ I don’t intend to become a minimalist by any means, but I am in the process of trying to figure out just how much value there is in sentimentality itself. Let me know if you figure it out.
